Outelia

Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Outelia («we», «us», or «our») handles personal information when you visit outelia.com, create an account, or use our outfit recommendation features. Effective date: July 1, 2026.

Who we are

Outelia is a web service that helps you decide what to wear based on weather, occasion, and style. We operate the website and related applications described in this policy.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use Outelia, we may collect:

  • Account information — email address, display name, username, and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google.
  • Profile and preferences — default city, style tags, style notes, and preferred retailers you save in your style profile.
  • Content you provide — photos you upload, text prompts, city and occasion details, calendar entries, planned events, packing lists, family profiles, saved outfits, and collections.
  • Public content — outfits you choose to make public may appear in Discover and on your public profile.
  • Usage information — outfit generation counts, and for anonymous users a one-way hash of your IP address (not your raw IP) to enforce daily rate limits.
  • Affiliate activity — when you click a retailer link through Outelia, we may log the retailer, search query, and whether you were signed in (we do not receive purchase details from retailers).
  • Payment information — if you subscribe to Outelia Premium, billing is handled by Stripe. We store Stripe customer and subscription identifiers and your plan status; we do not store full payment card numbers.
  • Technical data — browser type, device information, and server logs (including IP address) collected by our hosting provider for security and troubleshooting.

How we use information

  • Generate and display outfit recommendations tailored to weather, occasion, and your inputs.
  • Operate your account, digital closet, calendar, events, packing lists, and family profiles.
  • Enforce plan limits (for example, free daily generation caps) and prevent abuse.
  • Process Premium subscriptions and manage billing through Stripe.
  • Improve reliability, security, and the quality of the service.
  • Publish operator-generated public looks and Pinterest pins as part of our content pipeline (these do not include your private account data).

Legal bases (EEA and UK)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process personal data on these bases: performance of a contract (providing the service you request); legitimate interests (security, rate limiting, affiliate analytics, and service improvement, balanced against your rights); and consent where required (for example, optional cookies or marketing if we offer it in the future). You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing already carried out.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run Outelia (described below), when you choose to visit third-party retailers via our links, when required by law, or to protect our rights and users. Retailer websites have their own privacy policies and may set cookies when you leave Outelia.

Third-party services

We rely on the following categories of providers. Each receives only the data needed for their function:

  • OpenAI — processes photos and text prompts for vision analysis and outfit generation when that feature is enabled.
  • Open-Meteo — receives city or coordinates to return weather forecasts (no account required).
  • Pinterest — receives pin identifiers when you paste a Pinterest URL (used transiently for generation; we do not store third-party pin metadata) or when we publish operator-generated pins through our content pipeline.
  • Google — provides optional sign-in (OAuth); Google’s privacy policy applies to that authentication flow.
  • Stripe — processes Premium subscription payments.
  • Cloud storage (for example Amazon S3 or Cloudflare R2) — stores uploaded photos when cloud storage is enabled in production.
  • Hosting (Render) — runs our application and database; server logs may include IP addresses.
  • Affiliate retailers — Amazon, Etsy, Shein, Zara, H&M, ASOS, Nordstrom, and others you enable; we redirect you with affiliate parameters where applicable. See our Affiliate disclosure for details.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in (session authentication) and to remember your language preference (oc_locale, up to one year). We do not use third-party advertising cookies on Outelia. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling essential cookies may limit sign-in and language persistence.

Data retention

We keep account data, saved outfits, closet photos, calendar entries, events, trips, and related content while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete or anonymize personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain information for legal, tax, or security obligations. Anonymous generation logs and affiliate click records may be retained in aggregated or de-identified form. Hosting logs are retained according to our provider’s policies.

Security

We use industry-standard measures such as encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls on production infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; please use a strong, unique password and contact us if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, object to or restrict certain processing, and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including knowing what categories of data we collect and requesting deletion, subject to legal exceptions.

  • To exercise these rights, email us at the address below. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
  • You can update your profile and style preferences in your account settings at any time.
  • You can sign out and clear browser cookies to end your session.

We aim to respond to privacy requests within 30 days.

Children

Outelia is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

International transfers

Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses for transfers from the EEA or UK.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated by email or in-app notice where appropriate. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
